Equipment and Supplies Needed
Before you buy
Parrots need a lot of equipment and set-up in order to have a healthy, happy life that will bring you both joy for years. Here is a list of things you must buy before getting a bird:
For Chicks
For Adult Birds
-large cage
-travel cage
-pellet food
-newspapers (for bedding)
-toys (buy a lot so you can switch them out every few weeks to keep things spicy with your bird)
-3 dishes (food, water, and veggies)
-blanket to cover cage at night
-treats, millet
-frozen veggies to thaw and give every day
-calcium blocks to chew on
-elevated bird bath (optional, but if you do get one, you have to change the water daily, or else it will get stagnant with bird poop and slime mold)
For Chicks
-syringe (for feeding, but not the kind with a needle)
-formula
-thermometer (formula should be between 100° and 105° F)
-nesting box
-stuffing (the kind for stuffing toys or pillows)
-clean towel/cloth
-blanket/cloth to cover box at night (leave an air hole)
-somewhere warm, dry, dark, and quiet to put box in during the day (I used my walk in closet)
